Mary Kay Samouce – Designer and Craftsman

Contemporary works by Mary Kay Samouce of ADORN by Samouce find their origin and fashion roots in rare antique and vintage objects prominently displayed in each one-of-a-kind original jewelry statement piece. Samouce brings her many years experience as a theatrical scenic designer to her dramatic, unique jewelry designs, giving new life and a contemporary edge to these remarkable pieces from the past. Samouce is the daughter of a well known antique dealer from Houston Texas. Together, on buying excursions to Europe, she became immersed in an environment full of antique treasures. A proud graduate of the Tisch School of the Arts NYU, a National Endowment for the Arts grant recipient with studies in Praque, LA and NYC, she shares an esthetic heavily influenced by the outstanding people and places that have encouraged her unique creativity. Vintage meets our current life style of today, for what can be considered recycling the old into the new. Additionally she provides well researched details to enrich the experience of owning an ADORN by Samouce original, each design is nostalgic with a feel for the relevant fashions of today.

Original Hand Crafted Jewelry Designs by Mary Kay Samouce

Antique and Vintage jewelry finds are seamlessly integrated into lovely new jewelry statement pieces to ADORN your modern look. Necklaces, bracelets, and earrings feature authentic Georgian, Victorian, Edwardian, Art Nouveau, Art Deco and vintage from the 50s, 60s and 70s into original hand crafted contemporary treasures. Rare vintage glass, jet and crystal beads are combined with sparkling gemstones, quartz crystal, jade, agate, keishi pearls and baroque pearls of all shapes and colors. Unusual antique and vintage chain in 9K, brass and bronze compliment the tone of each original jewelry piece.

Designer Background

Mary Kay Samouce attended the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Utah, Salt Lake City for her BFA in studio art painting and sculpture with a minor in dance and geology. She then attended New York University, Tisch School of the Arts on full scholarship to study theatrical and commercial event design. Mary Kay won the NEA (National Endowment for the Arts, TCG-Theatre Communication Group design development grant) to study with renowned designers in the US and Prague. She art directed the 2002 Oscar winning documentary short “THOTH”, assisted on Broadway, international productions and corporate event planning and design in NYC. Mary Kay has designed scenery for live theatre production across the country. Her theatrical design work has also included roller coaster queue concept design and construction for Six Flags amusement parks in Texas and New Jersey. She has worked in the fashion industry designing sunglasses, accessories and displays for mass retail distribution. Mary Kay has experience in interior design for residential and retail commercial venues including the Mattel Toy Fair, Neiman Marcus, & Liz Claiborne. Jewelry making and design was always tucked in as her favorite thing to do and is now her full time business, ADORN by Samouce.
